Ancient Japanese royalty held these dogs in such high regard that they were considered separate entities from standard dogs classified instead as royal 'Chins.'

They are known for performing the 'Chin Spin' a rapid self-contained pirouette on their hind legs when they become excited.

The Japanese Chin was a favorite of the Japanese nobility for centuries.
