About The Bark Facts
Here’s a confession to open with: I don’t own a dog.
Not since I was a kid, anyway. What I have instead is a committed habit of borrowing everyone else’s. Three granddogs do a lot of the heavy lifting: a labradoodle, a pug mix, and a Goldendoodle-husky who is exactly as much personality as that combination promises. The rest I meet out in the world.
The whole thing started on a Saturday morning run. I’m one of those people who says hi to everybody on the trail. Except I say hi to the human and smile at the dog. I still do it every single day. Somewhere in the middle of one of those runs it clicked: I think about dogs constantly, I just don’t have one of my own to aim all of it at. So I built a place to put it.
These days my wife and I run a small, unofficial dog-treat operation. We don’t head out for a walk without a pocket full of treats, and we hand out as many as we’re allowed to. That includes pup cups at the dog park for dogs we’ve never met. It’s the best part of the week.
So that’s really what The Bark Facts is: one guy who loves dogs a genuinely unreasonable amount, writing down the true, weird, and useful stuff about them, one breed at a time.
I love dogs and I do my homework, but I’m not a veterinarian. The health and breed notes are here to inform and delight, not to replace real advice from your vet. When it’s your dog’s health on the line, talk to someone who can actually meet the dog.
